SWASH Educational Course

For patients with spastic cerebral palsy, excessive hip adductor tone results in a variety of clinical problems including poor sitting and standing stability and, in time, hip subluxation. This course will review patient selection and fitting of SWASH – the Sitting Walking and Standing Hip orthosis for management of sitting instability and/or scissoring gait.  A computer generated model will demonstrate the mechanical function of the SWASH orthosis. Learning outcomes include understanding of the physiological, psychological, and functional impact of improved posture and hip stability.

After taking this course, you will know:

  • How to identify suitable candidates for SWASH
  • How to appreciate the functional impact of SWASH on the wearer
  • What product selection is best for your patient
  • How to correctly measure and fit SWASH
  • How to trouble shoot possible problems you have with SWASH
